Here is a draft of the Component Overview for March of the Ants. I am not sure if I want to keep it in this format for the beta rules that we send to reviewers. Or to space out all the images throughout the game (placing them next to the corresponding area of the rules.) I think it is kind of handy to have this first off and see what all the pieces are. Then again I feel this might have too much info and be overly detailed for one page. Maybe better to just have a visual of all components and then more detailed info in the relevant sections.
Let me know what y’all think? I used the colors to try and break it up a little.March 16, 2014 at 12:00 am #1875
I think this looks quite tight.March 16, 2014 at 6:37 am #1878
Here is my latest rules diagram. It is for battle. I think I am going to use outlines and maybe different colored numbers to differentiate different diagrams as the hexes have white entryways and can’t be super imposed on colors easily.
I am totally down to do it in a more science inspired look for the final product but right now we go quick and dirty dirty.

I like quick and dirty!!!March 16, 2014 at 3:16 pm #1884
Okay, these look really good. Here are a few possible changes that I see:
Diagram 1: Meadow needs an “o” in it.
Diagram 2 & 3: Having the color cube (or centipede token) on the top of the cards is confusing because that never occurs in the game. You should find a different way to represent “control” of the evolutions/cards — for example, float text above the card that says Red Nest or something like that.
Diagram 2: “Each player declares their army size.” I feel like you then need to actually write out, “The red nest’s army size is two, the blue nest’s army size is four.”
Diagram 3: Will you also have an example of the centipede winning, or just text that explains how the outcome is different? For example, it could be italicized below the final step to say something like, “If the centipede is victorious, it destroys a number of ants equal to…”
It’s not a huge deal, but I’m still curious about consistent capitalization of words like Meadow, Nest, Larvae, Ants etc. across all game components.March 16, 2014 at 5:20 pm #1885
Rad, thanks for detailed feedback and attentive eyes Stephen. Yes – I think all things are lower case, except those few things.
Good note on the cubes, I like the text above, definitely better to not show something that doesn’t happen in the game.
I will put italics explaining Centipede Victor – don’t think I have room for another diagram. Kinda don’t want too much info but just enough.March 16, 2014 at 5:55 pm #1886
Here is the Queen Phase, a little different format since a couple sections are using the same diagram. Does it still work? Is it too weird to have no number markers on this one? Thanks for feedback!March 16, 2014 at 7:31 pm #1888
Here is updated Battle Diagram with Stephen’s edit suggestions.
Also the updated Components Overview.
Right now I am thinking I will have the strict written rules and then these pages kind of like the Glossary in Catan. Maybe with the components overview upfront. It is a little weird cause there is a bit of info crossover and some info in one place but not the other. Really I need to synthesize it and unify but we will see if my brain holds out.March 16, 2014 at 10:03 pm #1891March 16, 2014 at 10:54 pm #1895
